Ursula’s Wine Bar & Café

A person would be hard pressed to find a more charming and picturesque town than White Bear Lake. Only ten minutes from downtown St. Paul, yet it seems completely removed from the hustle of the city. When you enter White Bear Lake, you enter a completely different world. You see the tiny, quaint shops, the sun shimmering on the water, the clean, landscaped streets, and you can feel the tension wash away. When you’ve relaxed and are ready for dinner, then you’re ready for Ursula’s Wine Bar & Café.

Ursula’s has the same light and airy feel as the beach that surrounds White Bear Lake. Just slightly off the beaten path, they are open for dinner only, every evening except Monday. They open at five and that is when you gain access to an expansive selection of California wines, spiced with a few appropriations from Spain, France and Italy. They are fairly priced and an excellent companion to the exciting menu that is seasonally driven. Some of the fascinating entrees include Gnoccietta with Chicken Breast, Sweet Tomato, Basil Pesto & Parmigiano-Reggiano for $19, and Lamb Loin with Ramp & Baby Arugula Risotto for $26.

The Starters also look appealing with Oven Roasted Marcona Almonds for $4, and Goat Cheese Gratin with Oven Roasted Tomatoes & Thyme for $7. These are just a hint of the other five, similarly priced, openers. There are two salads offered including Tuna Tartare with Chives, Lemon, Avocado & Baby Arugula for $12. Ursula’s is particularly proud of their Dessert Menu, compliments of Zach Barton. Imagine sinking your fork into a warm chocolate cake that oozes chocolate fondant onto the vanilla ice cream and raspberry. Or how about the silky tartness of vanilla cheesecake with rhubarb sauce? Ursula’s also offers six dessert wines by the glass including Bonny Doon Framboise and Trentadue Chocolate Amore. I’m getting excited just typing the name.

To enhance the relaxed, conversational atmosphere of Ursula’s, the walls of the restaurant are festooned with the art of Leslie Alexander. And from 5-6pm every evening, Ursula’s offers a special: any salad, entrée and dessert with a glass of wine for $35.00. Ursula’s Wine Bar & Grill is located at 2125 4th Street in White Bear Lake and their phone number is 651-429-9600. There are no separate checks for parties of six or more and an 18% gratuity will be added for parties of six or more.
