Finding the Tuscan Sun in Minnesota

Those of us who own the movie Under the Tuscan Sun pop it into the player and watch it whenever the Minnesota winter gets to be too much. Or whenever we need a vacation. Or just because it’s Under the Tuscan Sun.

That seems like a great motivation to go to Enjoy restaurant. Just driving up to the place seemed to drop ten pounds of stress off my shoulders. And I needed it because I drove there right after a snow storm and the roads were a disaster.

To begin with, the place just looks cool; or rather, warm. It really imparts a feeling of being in a very nice villa anywhere in Italy that borders on the Mediterranean. The rich color palette, the deft use of black iron, lots of stone, very high tin ceilings and huge windows all along two walls tell you this is a place to be. The windows look out on the wrap-around patio complete with two fireplaces. In fact, I sat beside one of the five fireplaces as I interviewed Julie, one of the managers, on that frozen winter day.

As I always do, I asked Julie what she recommended to anyone coming there for the first time. Without hesitation she said, “the Pecan Crusted Walleye. It’s our number one most popular dinner.” If you’re not a fish person, she suggested the Filet Mignon. And for a lighter fare with a good wine she suggested the warm cheese platter. On the subject of wine, she said, their new manager Julio Pitre has taken their wine list to a whole new level with some fabulous Zins and Cabs.

Then I asked about the dessert. “The Crème Brule,” she replied. “Many people come here just for that.” Of course, if you prefer your dessert to be of the liquid variety, they have a Godiva Martini that is just plain evil.

I got the impression that Enjoy is trying to be a place where people can do just that. Wednesday night is Ladies night. So what, you say? Enjoy features special chocolate desserts on Wednesday night only. And the Salsa lessons start at 8:00pm.

They also have a special Family menu Sunday thru Thursday. Each night features something different from Mexican to Asian with 2 appetizers, 2 entrées, and 2 desserts. And they said something about “all you can eat.”

Appetizer prices are around $10. Entrees, with a few exceptions, are $16-$29. Enjoy is located at 15435 Founders Lane in Apple Valley. They are open Monday-Thursday 11am-10pm; Friday and Saturday 11am-11pm; Sunday 10am-10pm. Sunday Brunch is 10am-2pm. For more information, call 952-891-6569.
